A child prodigy with the bow and baton, he made his debut on the viola at 8 and his conducting debut with a radio broadcast at the helm of the NBC Orchestra at the age of 11. Maazel became the first American conductor at Bayreuth and followed Willy Boskovsky as the conductor of the Vienna New Years Concerts. Recently he was the Music Director of the New York Philharmonic and currently, he is the Music Director of the Munich Philharmonic. |
