HEINZ BONGARTZ- CONDUCTOR |
|
Scarce autographed 4” x 6” photograph of the long time conductor of the Dresden Philharmonie. Bongartz, (1894-1978) Was a pupil of Fritz Steinbach before the Second World War. He was appointed the first Music Director of the Dresden Philharmonie post war, (1947-1964) and then shared conducting responsibilities with the Leipzig Gewandhaus the Neumann years and for a year, the Music Director of the Leipzig Gewandhaus 1969-1970 between Neumann and Masur. Bongartz recorded prolifically, however, as an East European conductor whose major part of his career came post War, his recordings until fairly recently were not well known in the West, unlike his colleague Hermann Abendroth, whose pre-War recordings were well known. Bongartz’s readings of Bruckner and Reger originally on Uranus are considered to be some of the finest performances on records. CD’s are available and below, please find a link to the many cd’s featuring his work, most available on Berlin Classics. http://www.webcitation.org/query?url=http://www.geocities.com/Vienna/Studio/2891/bongartz-dis.htm&date=2009-10-25+18:31:42 As with the recordings, his autographs are extremely scarce. |
